BCNS is a standalone utility that helps BC (Background Communicator) users to find other BC users. It may be extremely useful when you use BC community groups / chat rooms.
BC is a peer-to-peer application.
It searches for new users by examining all connected users and BCNS-es.
BCNS-es provide information about other connected users, belonging to the appropriate communities.
When BC finds a user with community, matching community of one of the groups in user list, it automatically includes him into this group and connects.
There are three versions of BCNS:
The main differences between various BCNS versions are covered in the following table:
| GUI version | (bandled with a client) |
|
Works with all Windows operating systems (32 bit). (It doesn't work very well under Windows 9x/Me due to the system limitations.) Has an informative interface, implements demultiplexing and password protection. Recommended for small user groups. Limited to 500 of simultaneously connected users. More about GUI version ... |
|
| NT service version | (bandled with a client) |
|
Requires Windows NT based operating system. Installed as a service. Low CPU time and memory usage (in comparison with GUI version). Recommended for large user groups. Hosts any (reasonable) number of connections. More about service version ... |
|
| Console (Unix) version | (available as a stand alone download) |
|
Distributed in source code and therefore compatible with most of today Unix clones (may be compiled for Win32). Low CPU time and memory usage (in comparison with GUI version). Recommended for very large user groups (when running under Unix). Hosts any (reasonable) number of connections. |
