BCNS is a standalone utility that helps BC (Background Communicator) users to find other BC users.
It may be extremely useful when you use BC community groups / chat rooms.
General description ...
You will need administrative privileges to install / configure / remove BCNS service.
To function properly, BCNS must be able to accept incoming connections and exchange data on specified port
(TCP 3728 by default).
No hard disk and registry access required.
Errors and warnings are logged to application log, service will not interact with desktop.
You can configure BCNS using command line parameters.
| Use | bcns_svc.exe -? | to get list of available options; |
| use | bcns_svc.exe -s | to install / configure the service; |
| use | bcns_svc.exe -r | to remove the service. |
When installing / configuring the service (flag -s specified), you can use additional parameters:
| -d | start in debug mode (enable warnings) | (default: false) |
| -i<address> | interface to accept connections on | (default: any (0.0.0.0)) |
| -l<port> | port to accept connections on | (default: 3782) |
| -n<name> | server name | (default: BCNS v1.0 beta) |
| -u<number> | maximum number of connected users | (default: 300) |
| -f<number> | user update interval in seconds | (default: 30) |
When started in debug mode (flag -d specified), BCNS will log warnings. This may be very useful, but hold in mind that some types of warnings ("Unable to connect more users" for example) can easily overflow your Event Log.
[ BCNS is currently available as a beta release. ]
